Join us and our three fabulous panellists, in conversation with Dr Louise Grimmer, as they discuss their experiences of being promoted to Level D (Associate Professor).

Our panellists come from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, and all have really interesting and varied experiences of being promoted to Level D.

  • Associate Professor Kristyn Harman

    Associate Professor Kristyn Harman

    Associate Professor Kristyn Harman was the first in her extended family to complete a university degree. She is currently the Associate Head of School Research Performance and an Associate Professor in History within the School of Humanities, and Deputy Chair of Academic Senate. She has won awards for both teaching and research and has been a visiting scholar/researcher at the University of Trier (Germany), Monash Prato campus (Italy), and Otago University (New Zealand). Her research has been amplified through international outlets including the New York Times, National Geographic, and the BBC. She co-founded the Van Diemen History Prize (with Forty South), chairs the Tasmanian Working Party of the Australian Dictionary of Biography, and is on the committee of the Convict Women’s Press. Kristyn particularly enjoys mentoring the younger generation of her family who have university aspirations, one of whom has obtained an engineering degree, another an animation degree, and with a third currently studying medicine.

    Associate Professor Andrea Carr

    Andrea Carr is Principal and Associate Dean, University College in the College of Business and Economics. Andrea has held leadership roles across the University of Tasmania including Head of Student Learning and Associate Dean Learning and Teaching (University College). Andrea has extensive expertise in designing, delivering and evaluating curricula in higher education and has worked across a range of disciplines including Psychology, Neuroscience, and Dementia Care and was a visiting scholar at the University of Osnabrück, Germany from 2014-2016. She has been recognised for contributions to learning and teaching at the University of Tasmania and nationally through the Australian Office of Learning and Teaching for outstanding contributions to student learning and programs that enhance learning.

  • Associate Professor Kristy de Salas

    Associate Professor Kristy de Salas

    Kristy de Salas has 20 years’ experience as a Business and ICT Systems analyst and persuasive technologies intervention designer, working with over 100 organisations to augment or transform their business with ICT. Associate Professor de Salas also holds the role of Producer for the Games Development company Giant Margarita. This company is the first and only company in Tasmania to undertake the development of entertainment games with international publishers Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.
